A 20-year-old man named Ahmed Hussain died after inhaling toxic fumes caused by a chemical leak at a jewellery workshop in Andheri MIDC. Two others, his sister Saba Shaikh and neighbour Naushad Ansari, also inhaled the fumes and remain hospitalised. The incident occurred due to excess sodium sulphate being mixed with waste materials, releasing hazardous gas. An inquiry has been registered by the police.

On Saturday afternoon, Ahmed Hussain, a 20-year-old worker at a jewellery workshop in the MIDC area of Andheri, died after inhaling toxic fumes released from a chemical leak. The leak happened around 4:55 pm inside a two-storey building at Bhangarwadi when Hussain was cleaning waste material by mixing it with water and sodium sulphate. He accidentally added excess sodium sulphate, causing harmful fumes to emit. Hussain collapsed and screamed for help, prompting his 17-year-old sister, Saba Shaikh, and 28-year-old neighbor, Naushad Ansari, to enter and also inhale the fumes. All three were found unconscious by Hussain's father, who alerted the police. The trio was rushed to Holy Spirit Hospital, where Hussain was declared dead on arrival, while Saba and Ansari are undergoing treatment and recovering. The MIDC police have registered the case, and an inquiry is underway. The incident prompted response from local authorities including the fire brigade and National Disaster Response Force, who took safety measures and investigated the chemical involved. The area remains cordoned off as further investigations continue.
