AAP Alleges Collapse of Delhi Bus Service Due to Removal of Cluster Buses
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleges a severe collapse of Delhi's bus system, causing long waiting times and overcrowding for commuters. They attribute the crisis to the removal of cluster buses by the BJP-led government from April, which has particularly impacted routes to East Delhi and connectivity to major hospitals. AAP criticizes the government's explanation of depot renovations and calls the removal poorly planned, leading to maximum inconvenience.
On November 4, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) publicly accused the current BJP-led government of causing a complete collapse of Delhi's public bus system, triggering significant difficulties for daily commuters. AAP’s Delhi State President, Saurabh Bharadwaj, visited multiple bus stops and observed passengers enduring hour-long waits due to a drastic reduction in bus availability. The shortage, according to Bharadwaj, began after cluster buses were removed from Delhi roads in April, disproportionately affecting East Delhi routes such as Laxmi Nagar and Anand Vihar. Commuters also face overcrowded buses, especially during peak hours, causing frustration and difficulty boarding. Routes 419 and 423 connecting South to Old Delhi are critically impacted as well. The government has cited depot renovations as the reason, but AAP alleges this is a poorly planned measure that has resulted in maximum public inconvenience and disruption of essential transit services, including access to major hospitals. BJP representatives, however, counter by stating that 600 new buses have been added to the Delhi Transport Corporation fleet in the last eight months. The situation highlights a contentious debate over management and operational capacity of Delhi's public transport system amid growing commuter demand and service challenges.
