AgroChem Summit 2025: Positioning India as a Global Agrochemical Manufacturing and Export Hub
The Fourth Edition of AgroChem Summit 2025, held on November 19 in New Delhi, focuses on driving sustainability while balancing productivity in India’s agrochemical sector. India is emerging as the world’s third-largest exporter with significant growth potential due to low domestic penetration and rising global demand. The summit addresses challenges like reliance on Chinese imports, lengthy approvals, and the need for improved R&D funding and policy reforms.
AgroChem Summit 2025, organized by Indian Chemical News, convenes industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to strategize on making India a global manufacturing and export hub for agrochemicals. The event features speakers from academia, industry, and editorial leadership, discussing topics such as boosting domestic production, developing manufacturing clusters, enhancing R&D for next-generation molecules, leveraging advanced technologies, and meeting global environmental standards. India's agrochemical market currently stands at $11.2 billion and is projected to reach $14.5 billion by FY28, driven by exports which have tripled in a decade to $3.3 billion in FY25. Despite being the second-largest producer of fruits and vegetables globally, India's domestic agrochemical penetration is low, presenting growth opportunities. Challenges include dependency on Chinese imports resulting in pricing pressure, slow regulatory approvals, underfunded R&D, and sustainability demands. The sector calls for policy reforms, increased R&D investment (including a proposed $150–200 million fund), and skill development through ITIs and public-private partnerships. The summit also highlights the need for branding 'Make in India' agrochemicals and improving infrastructure, logistics, and skill bridging to fully exploit India's structural strengths, policy enablers, and global market opportunities in agrochemicals.
