Air India Flight from San Francisco to Delhi Diverted to Mongolia Due to Technical Issue

The 228 passengers and 17 crew members landed safely. Passengers were assisted with meals, disembarkation, and hotel arrangements, while Air India arranged a relief flight to bring them to Delhi as soon as possible.

On November 2, Air India flight AI174, operating a Boeing 777 from San Francisco to Delhi with a stopover in Kolkata, was diverted to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, following a suspected technical issue detected mid-flight by the crew. The precautionary landing was executed safely with all 245 occupants, including 228 passengers and 17 crew members, unharmed. After disembarking, passengers were served meals and provided hotel accommodation after completing immigration procedures. Air India coordinated with local authorities and the Indian Embassy in Mongolia to support passengers. The airline expressed regret regarding the inconvenience caused and emphasized safety as their top priority. Engineers inspected the aircraft to determine the technical problem. To resolve the disruption, Air India scheduled a relief flight AI183, operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, departing Delhi Tuesday afternoon to retrieve the passengers and subsequently return them to Delhi by Wednesday morning. Throughout the incident, Air India maintained communication with passengers and facilitated their onward travel arrangements, underscoring the focus on passenger welfare and operational safety.
