Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) are collaborating to establish India's first ship-to-ship liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering facility at Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala. The hub aims to support vessels on the East-West shipping corridor by providing LNG as a cleaner marine fuel, advancing India’s maritime energy transition and net-zero emission goals.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has partnered with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to develop India’s inaugural ship-to-ship liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering facility at the Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala. This pioneering project targets vessels operating along the significant East–West global shipping corridor by supplying LNG, a cleaner and more sustainable alternative to conventional marine fuels. This initiative represents a substantial advancement in India’s effort to transition its maritime sector towards greener energy solutions and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Beyond facilitating compliance with international decarbonization standards, the collaboration emphasizes APSEZ's dedication to establishing environmentally friendly and energy-efficient port infrastructure and BPCL’s strategic expansion into clean energy. The Vizhinjam facility will also position India as a regional LNG bunkering hub, setting a global benchmark for sustainable port operations. By supporting India’s ambitious 2070 net-zero emissions target, this project not only furthers the country’s commitment to eco-friendly maritime technologies but also promotes the broader adoption of low-carbon marine fuels across the region, reinforcing responsible shipping practices.
