India's Ayushman Bharat scheme provides free medical cover to millions, transforming healthcare access. However, unpaid government bills and delayed reimbursements threaten its success, causing financial strain on hospitals.

Launched in 2018, Ayushman Bharat offers Rs. 5 lakhs annual health cover to poor families, enhancing access to both government and private hospitals. Despite its benefits, the scheme faces significant financial issues. Unpaid claims totaling over 1 trillion rupees have caused hospitals cash flow problems, leading some to suspend services. The Indian Medical Association has expressed concerns over these delays. Despite these challenges, Ayushman Bharat remains crucial for providing affordable healthcare to vulnerable populations.
