Bandi Sanjay Hails NDRF as India’s Disaster Response Backbone
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, praised the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for its bravery, discipline, and sacrifice during a memorial event. Highlighting their role in saving over 1,600 lives and evacuating more than 38,000 people last year, he called NDRF the backbone of India's disaster management.
At a memorial event in New Delhi honoring fallen NDRF personnel, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar lauded the National Disaster Response Force as the cornerstone of India’s disaster management system. He emphasized the NDRF’s evolution in tackling diverse threats like forest fires, mountain rescues, and CBRN disasters. The minister noted the force’s impressive record in the past year, saving over 1,600 lives and evacuating upwards of 38,000 people nationwide. He paid tribute to the martyrs and comforted their families while praising NDRF’s discipline and technical expertise, which commands global respect. Recalling its heroic interventions since the 2013 Kedarnath tragedy to recent disasters across various states, he reaffirmed NDRF’s role in disaster control. The force currently operates through 16 battalions and 28 Regional Response Centres, recently leading aid operations such as “Operation Brahma” in Myanmar following an earthquake. Bandi Sanjay highlighted that commemorations serve to honor sacrifices, boost morale, and reinforce India’s commitment to disaster resilience under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
