Specialty chemicals company Draslovka a.s. has secured a multi-year contract to supply Barrick Mining’s Nevada Gold Mines with sodium cyanide (NaCN), essential for gold extraction at the largest U.S. gold mine. Both companies highlighted the partnership's focus on safe, reliable, and secure chemical supply, marking a strategic expansion for Draslovka in North America.
Draslovka a.s., a specialty chemicals company, has signed a multi-year contract to supply sodium cyanide (NaCN) to Barrick Mining's Nevada Gold Mines, home to the largest gold mine in the United States. This agreement is critical as NaCN is a vital chemical required for gold extraction processes. Draslovka is committed to ensuring a domestic supply, with production taking place entirely at its Memphis facility in the U.S. Additionally, the company plans to expand its existing handling terminal in Carlin, Nevada, to effectively support the new contract. This partnership arrives amidst a challenging global market for sodium cyanide, which has seen supply tighten significantly due to a surge in worldwide gold demand and insufficient new production capacity. Although sodium cyanide constitutes a small percentage of gold miners' recovery costs, its role in gold production is non-negotiable. Pavel Bruzek Jr, CEO of Draslovka, emphasized the company's ability to provide a safe, reliable supply that meets high operational and environmental standards, helping to bridge the current supply gap. Jimmy Richards, Vice President of Commercial and Supply Chain at Barrick, echoed these sentiments, praising Draslovka's dedication to safety, quality, and supply security, which aligns with Nevada Gold Mines' stringent standards. This contract strategically strengthens Draslovka's presence and footprint within the North American market.
