Belarus has officially committed to supporting India's upcoming presidency of the BRICS group in 2026. President Alexander Lukashenko invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Minsk, reiterating Belarus’s readiness to cooperate and ensure India's successful BRICS chairmanship. Lukashenko thanked India for its help during Belarus’s accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and noted the strong partnership within BRICS. The two countries have existing collaboration in areas such as military technology, highlighted by India's participation in joint military exercises like Zapad 2025 involving Belarus. Economically, Belarus is a significant supplier of potash fertilizers to India’s agriculture sector, while India exports pharmaceuticals to Belarus. President Lukashenko also expressed optimism about increasing bilateral trade between the two nations under India's BRICS leadership. This development strengthens the strategic and economic ties as India prepares to assume the BRICS presidency, enhancing cooperation within the grouping and supporting Global South interests[3].
