Cyclone Montha to Make Landfall on Andhra Pradesh Coast Today, IMD Issues Alerts for Multiple States
Cyclone Montha is expected to make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast today as a severe cyclonic storm with winds up to 100 km/h. High warnings and alerts have been issued in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and neighboring states including West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. Transport disruptions include flight and train cancellations. The IMD forecasts heavy rain for Odisha and light rain with cooler temperatures in parts of North India.
Cyclone Montha, currently a severe cyclonic storm in the Bay of Bengal, is projected to strike the Andhra Pradesh coast near Kakinada between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam during the evening or night of October 28, 2025. With sustained wind speeds ranging from 90 to 100 km/h gusting up to 110 km/h, authorities have issued high-level weather alerts including Orange Alerts for districts such as Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, and Mulugu, with Yellow Alerts for other northeastern districts. Extensive precautionary measures have been taken, including school closures, restrictions on coastal movement, deployment of rescue teams, and cancellation of 54 trains in the Vijayawada railway division, alongside flight cancellations. Neighboring Odisha is expected to experience heavy rainfall over the next several days due to the cyclone’s influence. Meanwhile, a separate Western Disturbance is affecting North India, causing warm conditions, cloud cover, light rain, and cooler daytime temperatures in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, with light showers forecast for over 50 districts in Uttar Pradesh. The presence of Cyclone Montha and the Western Disturbance together are influencing diverse weather patterns across eastern and northern India as noted by the India Meteorological Department.
