Cyprus strongly endorses the conclusion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), viewing it as a key step to strengthen EU-India relations and unlock significant economic benefits. Cyprus sees India as a natural ally and a major global player amid complex geopolitical challenges. The FTA, long negotiated, promises to enhance trade, connectivity, and cooperation between the regions.

In a recent statement delivered during the 55th Sapru House Lecture in New Delhi, Cyprus Foreign Affairs Minister Constantinos Kombos expressed Cyprus's strong support for the swift conclusion of the Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and India. He emphasized that the FTA will not only deepen ties between India and the EU but also unlock substantial economic opportunities for both India and European countries. Kombos described India as a natural partner and ally in the evolving multipolar global landscape, sharing democratic values and respect for international law. He highlighted the potential of the India-Mediterranean Economic Corridor (IMEC) as a transformative geopolitical tool to enhance regional connectivity and reshape trade routes. Amid current global challenges including financial crises, conflict, and rising extremism, Kombos underscored the importance of international cooperation and strategic economic partnerships. His visit to India reflects the broader geopolitical recognition of India’s growing influence and the strategic value of concluding the long-stalled India-EU FTA, which is expected to facilitate market access, reduce tariffs, and foster economic and diplomatic cooperation across multiple sectors.
