Delhi Air Quality Remains Very Poor with Severe Levels Expected
Delhi’s air quality continues to be very poor, with the overall AQI at 316 and several areas reporting readings above 300. Certain localities like Holambi Khurd Village reached hazardous levels with an AQI of 561. Pollution across the National Capital Region, including Ghaziabad and Noida, remains unhealthy. Forecasts predict worsening conditions with the first severe air quality reading of the season imminent.
On Monday, Delhi was enveloped in a grey haze with its air quality firmly in the ‘very poor’ category, reflected by an overall AQI of 316. Among 28 monitoring stations in the city, several recorded hazardous pollution levels, including Holambi Khurd Village at 561, Goutampuri at 408, and Maharam Mohalla at 344. Other affected areas like Mustafabad and Shahdara also reported very poor air quality. Neighboring cities in the National Capital Region, such as Ghaziabad (360), Noida (289), Greater Noida (306), and Gurugram (201), are experiencing similarly unhealthy air conditions. According to the India Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature was 17.9°C, slightly above seasonal averages, with daytime temperatures around 30°C accompanied by mist. While a slight improvement in air quality was noted on Monday, the Air Quality Early Warning System forecasts a worsening trend, predicting severely polluted air on Tuesday and November 4, followed by very poor conditions for several days thereafter. This seasonal rise in pollution poses significant health risks across Delhi and its environs.
