Delhi Airport Resumes Operations After Major Technical Glitch, Minor Delays Continue
Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport experienced significant disruptions due to a technical fault in the Automatic Message Switching System supporting Air Traffic Control. The system is now restored, gradually normalizing flight operations. Despite resumption, over 800 flights were impacted, causing minor ongoing delays as backlog clears.
Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi faced a major disruption when its Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), crucial for Air Traffic Control (ATC) communications, malfunctioned. This technical glitch caused extensive flight delays and cancellations impacting over 800 flights across many airlines including IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet. The airport authority and technical teams worked urgently to resolve the fault. Although the system has been restored and automated operations are resuming, some minor delays persist due to backlog and ongoing manual processing of flight plans. Airports Authority of India and Delhi International Airport Limited coordinated efforts to minimize passenger inconvenience and advised travelers to check with airlines for updated schedules. The glitch also affected operations at Mumbai airport due to cascading disruptions. Normal flight departures and arrivals are expected to stabilize soon as the system fully recovers from the fault.
