Delhi Government Launches 'Pink Saheli Smart Card' for Free Bus Travel for Women and Transgenders
The Delhi government has introduced the 'Pink Saheli Smart Card', enabling women and transgender individuals aged 12 and above to travel free on all Delhi Transport Corporation and cluster buses. Announced by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, this initiative aims to enhance women's mobility, safety, and dignity while promoting public transport use across Delhi.
On November 2, 2025, the Delhi government unveiled the 'Pink Saheli Smart Card', a digital and personalized smart card initiative that offers free travel for women and transgender commuters aged 12 years and older on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses. The card is registered under the National Common Mobility Card framework and replaces the older paper-based system, improving convenience and reducing misuse. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the development, emphasizing that it supports women’s empowerment and safer, more accessible public transport in the capital. Applicants must be bona fide Delhi residents with valid ID to qualify. The card also offers top-up capabilities for other transit systems, increasing flexibility for cardholders. Concurrently, under CM Gupta’s leadership, the Delhi government granted recognition to private unaided schools operating in non-conforming areas, a reform aimed at ensuring constitutional education rights and addressing long-standing administrative discrimination. These measures signify significant steps toward social equity and improved public facilities for women and transgender persons in Delhi.
