Delhi Govt Launches 'Pink Saheli Smart Card' for Free Bus Travel to Women and Transgender Community
The Delhi government has introduced the 'Pink Saheli Smart Card' to provide free travel for women and transgender persons aged 12 and above on DTC and cluster buses. Eligible residents need to apply online through the official portal, submitting documents including Aadhaar, PAN, and Delhi residence proof. The card promotes safe, convenient, and cashless travel across the city.
The Delhi government launched the 'Pink Saheli Smart Card' as a special initiative to grant free bus travel to women and transgender individuals aged 12 years and older on Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses. This scheme aims to enhance safety, convenience, and accessibility for women and transgender commuters, encouraging greater use of public transport. To be eligible, candidates must be female or transgender, reside in Delhi, and be at least 12 years old. Required documents include Aadhar card, PAN card, a residence certificate proving Delhi residency, a passport size photo, and bank KYC-compliant documents. Applicants can register online via the official DTC website, fill in details, submit a self-declaration form, and make any applicable payment. After successful verification and payment, an acknowledgment or application ID is provided to track the application. The card operates digitally, allowing cardholders to tap and board buses quickly and cashlessly, replacing the older pink paper ticket system. Cards are issued after full KYC verification by selected banks; no cards are issued directly by the DTC. This move is seen as a significant step towards safer and more respectful travel for women and transgender commuters in Delhi, reducing corruption and promoting digital public transport solutions.
