Delhi Govt Lifts One-Year NOC Limit for Overage Vehicles
The Delhi government has removed the one-year restriction on applying for No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for deregistered vehicles. This change allows owners of diesel vehicles over 10 years and petrol vehicles over 15 years to obtain NOCs for re-registration in other states, regardless of how long their registration has been expired, aiding pollution control and decongestion.
The Delhi government has announced the removal of the one-year cap on No Objection Certificate (NOC) applications for deregistered vehicles. This significant policy change benefits owners of diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years, enabling them to obtain NOCs for re-registering their vehicles in other states outside the Delhi-NCR region, irrespective of how long ago their registration expired. The move is intended to address the logjam of stranded vehicles in Delhi, which were neither being scrapped nor moved out, contributing to pollution and congestion. By relaxing the criteria, the government aims to empower citizens to make responsible choices, systematically phasing out older vehicles from Delhi's roads. This decision is expected to improve air quality and reduce traffic congestion in the capital. The change comes after public representations and internal reviews highlighted the difficulties faced by vehicle owners due to the previous restriction. The government has kept in abeyance the restrictive clause from the 'Guidelines for Handling End of Life Vehicles in Public Places of Delhi, 2024', which had limited NOC applications to within one year of registration expiry.
