On October 25, around 2:30 pm, a woman was fatally injured in a hit-and-run accident near Yamuna Bridge in central Delhi. The Delhi Police, acting on information received at Police Station IP Estate, immediately registered an FIR under Sections 281 and 106(2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. With no eyewitnesses present, investigators relied on CCTV footage from multiple points along the bridge to identify the offending vehicle. Initial analysis narrowed down the list to 40–50 vehicles, leading police to contact their owners for further scrutiny. One driver provided crucial information that the suspect vehicle was a white Hyundai i20 seen fleeing toward Sachivalaya Bhawan, though its number plate was initially unclear. Further scrutiny of footage near Kishan Ghat revealed the registration number, which led police to the owner, a resident of Daryaganj who had since moved to the MAMC Campus. Police successfully located and detained both the vehicle and its driver. During interrogation, the driver confessed to operating the vehicle at the time of the accident and admitted to fleeing the scene out of fear. The identity of the deceased woman remains unknown, and police are continuing their investigation to establish her details. This case highlights the Delhi Police’s use of technical analysis and sustained fieldwork to solve a blind hit-and-run, with legal proceedings underway as per the new penal code.
