Delhi Maid Masterminds 'Special 26' Style Fake ED Raid, Foiled by Real ED Lawyer
A Delhi domestic worker, Rekha Devi, orchestrated a 'Special 26'-style fake Enforcement Directorate raid on her 86-year-old employer's home. She and accomplices coerced the elderly couple into handing over cash and valuables. The elaborate scam unraveled when the victim's grandson, a real ED lawyer, intervened, prompting the culprits to flee with ₹3-4 lakh. Police arrested Rekha Devi and an accomplice, recovering fake IDs and weapons, but three male suspects remain at large.
In a crime mirroring the film 'Special 26,' a Delhi domestic worker named Rekha Devi allegedly masterminded a fake Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid on her elderly employer's New Friends Colony residence. Leveraging intimate knowledge of the household's routines, Rekha and her accomplices staged a highly convincing operation, forcing their way into the home, physically abusing the 86-year-old retired architect and his wife, and seizing their mobile phones. The perpetrators coerced the couple into surrendering a bag of cash, initially between ₹10-12 lakh, and later more cash and jewellery, while threatening them with arrest. The elaborate scheme began to unravel when the victim's wife managed to contact her grandson, who happened to be a lawyer for the ED. His phone confrontation with the fake officers alerted the fraudsters that a legitimate insider was involved, leading them to quickly abscond from the scene in a vehicle with approximately ₹3-4 lakh in cash. Delhi police launched an intensive investigation, reviewing 350 CCTV cameras and tracking vehicles. Their efforts led to the arrest of Rekha Devi, 40, identified as the main conspirator, and Pooja Rajput. During searches at Rekha Devi's residence in Vaishali, police recovered a uniform and fake identity card of a Deputy Commandant of the Indian Military Force, a wireless box, an expired pistol, and various valuables, highlighting the extensive planning involved. However, three male accomplices, including Prakash Kumar (alleged owner of the uniform) and Updesh Singh Thapa (registered owner of the getaway car), are still at large. Police urged the public to conduct thorough background checks and verify credentials of service workers and government representatives.
