Delhi Cooperation Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh announced plans to make the city a national model for cooperative-driven development, inspired by the national “prosperity through cooperation” initiative. The government aims to expand cooperative networks across housing, credit, women’s self-help groups, and youth enterprises, with digital transformation and inclusive participation as key strategies to empower all communities and foster equitable urban development.

On National Unity Day, Delhi Cooperation Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh reaffirmed the city government’s commitment to forging a collective path toward prosperity, under the principle of “Sahkar se Samriddhi” (prosperity through cooperation). This initiative aims to position Delhi as a model of cooperative-led growth, directly influenced by national efforts led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah since the establishment of the Ministry of Cooperation in 2021. The strategy involves building a robust network of cooperatives spanning multiple sectors, including housing, finance, women’s self-help groups, and youth enterprises. By actively encouraging the participation of cooperative leaders, residents, and marginalized groups, the government hopes to foster local solutions, shared resources, and community empowerment. The article notes that digitalization of cooperative operations, improved governance, transparent management, and the expansion of member participation—particularly among farmers, women, and youth—are central to the plan. Specific measures include supporting cooperative banks, urban credit societies, dairy cooperatives, consumer cooperatives, and housing federations, all while aligning with the nationwide “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) campaign. Officials believe Delhi’s cooperative reforms could inspire similar efforts in other Indian cities, showcasing how mutual trust, shared ownership, and cooperative institutions can drive sustainable, inclusive, and equitable development in a rapidly urbanizing society.
