Delhi’s Monuments to Become Wedding and Cultural Event Venues
The Delhi government plans to open around 70–80 heritage monuments as event venues, including for weddings and cultural gatherings. Iconic sites like Mutiny Memorial, Dara Shikoh Library, and Ghalib Haveli are included. The initiative aims to promote Delhi as a wedding destination while ensuring heritage preservation through security and GST relaxation measures.
The Delhi government is developing a scheme to allow bookings of select heritage monuments for weddings and cultural events, potentially transforming about 70–80 monuments into event venues under a public-private partnership. Monuments such as the Mutiny Memorial, Dara Shikoh Library, Maqbara Paik, tombs from the Lodi and Sayyid periods, pavilions at Qudsia Garden, and Ghalib Haveli are shortlisted. The scheme is at an initial stage, with ongoing discussions on implementation, including strict security to protect these historic sites. The government is also considering GST relaxation on booking fees to encourage use. Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra emphasized building basic infrastructure and simplifying permissions to position Delhi as a heritage-backed wedding destination. This initiative aligns with a broader vision of elevating Delhi’s profile globally for destination weddings and cultural tourism, combining heritage conservation with modern event hosting to boost local tourism and economy.
