EIL and GAIL Commission 60 KTPA Polypropylene Unit at Pata Petrochemical Complex
Engineers India Limited (EIL) and GAIL (India) Limited have successfully commissioned a 60 KTPA Polypropylene (PP) Project at GAIL’s Pata Petrochemical Complex in Uttar Pradesh. This milestone expands India’s petrochemical manufacturing base, enhancing domestic polypropylene supply and reducing import dependence. The plant will produce Homo Polymer, Impact Polymer, and Co-Polymer for diverse applications, aligning with national goals like Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, thereby strengthening India's self-reliance in polymers and industrial growth.
Engineers India Limited (EIL), in partnership with GAIL (India) Limited, has successfully commissioned a new 60 kilo tons per annum (KTPA) Polypropylene (PP) Project at GAIL’s Pata Petrochemical Complex in Uttar Pradesh. This significant achievement marks a crucial step in expanding India’s petrochemical manufacturing capabilities and accelerating the nation's push for self-reliance in polymers. The fully operational unit will bolster domestic polypropylene supply, thereby reducing reliance on imports and catering to the increasing demand across various industrial sectors. The newly commissioned facility is designed to produce three primary polypropylene grades: Homo Polymer, Impact Polymer, and Co-Polymer. These versatile grades are essential for a wide range of applications, including packaging, automotive components, consumer goods, infrastructure materials, and healthcare products. By manufacturing these polymers domestically, GAIL and EIL aim to ensure a reliable supply, improve cost efficiency, and fortify India’s downstream manufacturing ecosystem, playing a critical role in meeting both domestic and industrial requirements.EIL demonstrated its comprehensive project execution capabilities by not only delivering the core polypropylene unit but also commissioning all associated utilities, offsite systems, and seamless interconnections with the existing petrochemical complex. This integrated approach includes a dedicated Nitrogen Plant for operational support and a Mounded Bullet storage facility to enhance safety and storage capacity. The project aligns with India’s broader industrial and energy transition goals, specifically supporting the expansion of domestic petrochemical manufacturing, import substitution, value addition to natural gas, and national initiatives like Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, positioning GAIL and EIL as key contributors to India's evolving petrochemical landscape and sustainable industrial growth.
