A senior delegation of EU trade negotiators is visiting New Delhi from November 3 to 7 to engage with Indian counterparts on the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The negotiations focus on critical areas such as trade in goods and services, rules of origin, as well as technical and institutional issues. This visit serves to move discussions forward by addressing key unresolved points and working toward a mutually beneficial, balanced trade framework. High-level policy talks are scheduled with Sabine Weyand, Director-General for Trade at the European Commission, engaging Commerce Secretary Rajesh Aggarwal. The upcoming negotiations build on recent forward-looking discussions between India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic in Brussels. Both sides share a vision of a modern, robust FTA that respects their priorities and sensitivities. India aims to conclude the agreement with the EU by the end of 2025, emphasizing benefits such as enhancing trade, investment, innovation, and sustainable growth. The talks come amid India’s advancing trade negotiations with other major economies, reflecting its readiness to contribute to global trade frameworks while fostering domestic development.
