The European Commission launched the Critical Chemicals Alliance on October 28, 2025, to boost the competitiveness, resilience, and sustainability of Europe's chemical industry. The initiative addresses risks such as plant closures and trade disruptions, and invites organizations to join by applying online.

The European Commission announced the launch of the Critical Chemicals Alliance (CCA) on October 28, 2025. The CCA is a direct outcome of the Chemicals Industry Action Plan adopted in July 2025, designed to strengthen Europe's chemical sector by improving competitiveness, resilience, and sustainability. The alliance will focus on identifying critical chemical productions and molecules essential for the EU economy, mapping these to enhance trade monitoring and early warning systems, and supporting coordinated investments by aligning EU and national funding tools. The CCA is open to all organizations active in the chemical industry, including companies, associations, investors, research bodies, and civil society. Interested parties can apply online by signing the CCA's declaration. The alliance will hold its first General Assembly, with participation from Executive Vice-President Stéphane Séjourné, and will meet at least twice a year. A Steering Board will coordinate the CCA's work, and expert working groups will address areas such as trade resilience, innovation, and sustainable production.
