Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi experienced flight delays caused by a technical glitch in its Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, specifically a failure in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS). Flights were manually processed, resulting in an average delay of 55 minutes. Major domestic airlines, including IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet, were affected, impacting many departures at one of the busiest airports globally.
On a recent Friday morning, India's Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi faced significant flight delays due to a technical problem with its Air Traffic Control system. The issue stemmed from a malfunction in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which is integral for handling ATC data. As a result, flight plans had to be processed manually, leading to an average delay of approximately 55 minutes per flight. This disruption impacted several domestic carriers such as IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet, with IndiGo noting effects across Delhi and northern regions. The airport authority confirmed that technical teams were actively working on restoring normal ATC operations. Delhi Airport handles massive traffic volumes, managing about 78 million passengers in 2024 and over 110 million from January to August 2025, highlighting the broad impact such technical issues can have on its operations and passengers worldwide.
