Johann Saathoff, Parliamentary State Secretary in Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is traveling to India with a business delegation to promote collaboration in renewable energy sectors. Starting October 29 in Chennai, Saathoff will engage with Indian companies and associations in the wind energy industry before inaugurating the country’s largest international wind energy trade fair on October 30. The delegation will then move to New Delhi on October 31 for talks on solar and bioenergy sectors, energy storage, skilled labor, and labor migration. This visit highlights Germany’s commitment to supporting India’s ambitious renewable energy goal of 500 GW by 2030. The cooperation between German engineering and Indian manufacturing is seen as vital for resilient global supply chains and reducing international dependencies. German investments in India, totaling USD 15.11 billion since 2000 and involving over 2000 companies, mainly focus on transport, electrical equipment, and manufacturing sectors. The visit also underscores initiatives like the India-Germany Platform for Investments in Renewable Energy Worldwide, fostering joint efforts in solar, wind, battery storage, and workforce development to boost competitiveness and investment opportunities in the growing renewable market.
