Long Sơn Commune in Ho Chi Minh City is being developed into a modern, green petrochemical center with a $5.4 billion complex led by Thailand’s Siam Cement Group. The project emphasizes sustainability, technological innovation, and community support, aligning industrial growth with environmental preservation and cultural heritage, positioning Long Sơn as a key southern hub for green refining and petrochemical industries.

Once a quiet island marked by mangroves and traditional livelihoods, Long Sơn Commune has transformed into a major industrial zone within Ho Chi Minh City, strategically located near significant waterways and ports such as Gành Rái Bay and the Cái Mép - Thị Vải Port Complex. The heart of this transformation is the Long Sơn Petrochemical Complex (LSP), developed by Thailand’s Siam Cement Group with a $5.4 billion investment over 464 hectares, completed and operational by August 2025 after overcoming pandemic and market challenges.LSP includes state-of-the-art facilities producing olefins and polyolefins, contributing to Vietnam’s petrochemical industry and expected to generate substantial export revenues and tax contributions. The company further invests $500 million in ethane storage and supply to diversify feedstocks and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reflecting a strong commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. The commune’s updated master plan prioritizes digital transformation, infrastructure expansions including new bridges and roads, and industrial parks covering 850 hectares. Long Sơn balances industrialization with environmental conservation—protecting mangrove forests, cultural sites, and promoting eco-tourism. Local leadership emphasizes sustainable urban development that harmonizes green industry with cultural heritage and natural landscapes. Significant investment in infrastructure such as the Long Sơn International Port and industrial gas plants bolster economic growth and job creation. This integrated approach is shaping Long Sơn into a modern, harmonious, and sustainable petrochemical and industrial hub in southern Vietnam, supporting national defense, economic development, and environmental protection.
