Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025: Shiv Nadar Tops with ₹2,708 Crore Donation

Shiv Nadar & family topped the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025 with ₹2,708 crore in donations, marking a record ₹10,380 crore total from 191 philanthropists. The top 10 contributed 56% of the total, with notable entries including the Hinduja family, Sudhir and Samir Mehta, and Cyrus and Adar Poonawalla. Education remains the leading cause, and Mumbai leads as the philanthropy hub.

The EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025 reveals a record ₹10,380 crore donated by 191 philanthropists, an 85% increase over three years. Shiv Nadar & family retained the top spot with ₹2,708 crore, primarily through the Shiv Nadar Foundation, supporting education and arts. The top 10 philanthropists contributed ₹5,834 crore, accounting for 56% of the total. Mukesh Ambani & family ranked second with ₹626 crore, followed by the Bajaj family, Kumar Mangalam Birla & family, Gautam Adani & family, Nandan Nilekani, the Hinduja family, Rohini Nilekani, Sudhir and Samir Mehta, and Cyrus and Adar Poonawalla. The Hinduja family, Sudhir and Samir Mehta, and Cyrus and Adar Poonawalla entered the top 10 this year. Rohini Nilekani emerged as the most generous woman philanthropist. The number of individuals donating over ₹100 crore annually rose from two in 2018 to 18 in 2025. Education is the leading cause, with ₹4,166 crore donated by 107 donors. Mumbai is the leading philanthropy hub, followed by New Delhi and Bengaluru. The pharmaceutical industry has the largest share of donors, followed by software, automobile, and petrochemical sectors. Reliance Industries led CSR spending with ₹1,309 crore, exceeding its mandate by ₹261 crore.
