IMD Forecasts Cold Wave in Delhi-NCR and Heavy Rain in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a cold wave in Delhi-NCR with temperatures dropping to 13-14°C amid strong winds and morning fog. Heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry, with temperatures expected to fall sharply by 4-5°C in these regions. Northern India is experiencing winter with sub-zero temperatures and snowfall in Himalayan areas, while most parts of Northwest India will see stable weather over the next several days.
According to the India Meteorological Department, starting November 8, Delhi-NCR will experience a notable drop in minimum temperatures to around 13-14°C due to strong northwesterly winds blowing at about 20 kmph during mornings and evenings, accompanied by morning fog and haze in areas like Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad. Meanwhile, heavy rain and strong winds are forecast in the southern peninsula, specifically in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has issued alerts for heavy rainfall in multiple districts of Tamil Nadu such as Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai, Madurai, and others. This rainfall activity is likely to cause a sharp temperature decline of 4 to 5 degrees Celsius in these states along with gusty winds. Northern Himalayan regions including parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are witnessing sub-zero temperatures, fresh snowfall, and extreme cold conditions. However, the weather in many parts of Northwest India is expected to remain dry and stable, with no significant weather changes for the next 5-6 days, although a gradual fall in mercury is anticipated in central India. Overall, the IMD warns of continuing chilly and wet weather patterns that will influence daily life and health precautions, especially the cold wave in the capital region and heavy rains in the south.[1][2][5][6]
