Delhi Police arrested Sonu, a contract gardener at MCD, for forging recommendation letters on the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office letterhead. He impersonated a CM official and charged Rs 5,000 from poor patients to secure free treatment at private hospitals under the EWS category. The scam was uncovered after hospital authorities noticed suspicious spelling mistakes and formatting in the letters.

Sonu, a 27-year-old contract Mali at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), was apprehended for preparing forged letters using the official letterhead of the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office. He found an original letterhead at the MCD office, stole it, and created fake recommendation letters instructing private hospitals to provide free treatment to vulnerable patients under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category. Sonu impersonated himself as Balbir Singh Rathee, an official from the CM Office, and called hospital authorities using fake numbers. He targeted poor patients, charging them Rs 5,000 per case to arrange such letters. Hospital staff became suspicious due to spelling errors, inconsistent fonts, and improper alignment in the forged letters, prompting a complaint to the Civil Lines Police. During interrogation, Sonu confessed he used Google Translate to insert patient details into forged letters. Police recovered several forged documents, fake identity cards, and a motorcycle with a tampered number plate from him. Sonu's actions exploited poor patients seeking treatment by deceiving both hospitals and patients for financial gain. The case is under further investigation to identify any accomplices or further fraudulent activity.
