India and EU Advance Free Trade Agreement Talks

India and the European Union are intensifying negotiations for a comprehensive free trade agreement, focusing on resolving outstanding issues in trade, services, investment, and digital trade. Both sides aim for a balanced and equitable framework, with talks ongoing in New Delhi and a target to conclude the deal by the end of 2025.

India and the European Union have stepped up efforts to finalize a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), with negotiations taking place in New Delhi from November 3 to 7, 2025. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic reviewed progress and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral trade and investment relations. The discussions are focused on resolving key outstanding issues and advancing the agreement toward an equitable framework that benefits both partners. The negotiations seek to enhance cooperation in trade in goods and services, investment, digital trade, and sustainability. The EU remains India's largest trading partner, with total trade reaching US$136.42 billion in FY 2024–25. Both sides are committed to a balanced and mutually beneficial outcome, aiming to conclude the FTA by the end of 2025.
