India and EU Confident of Finalizing Free Trade Agreement Soon, Strengthen Cooperation

India and the European Union expressed strong confidence in concluding their Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by the end of 2025. Key officials, including India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, and the EU Ambassador to India Herve Delphin, highlighted ongoing productive negotiations in Brussels and Delhi aimed at deepening cooperation and stabilizing the global economy through the FTA.

A Parliamentary Delegation from the European Parliament's Committee on International Trade Affairs met with Indian parliamentary leaders and government ministers in Delhi to discuss the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Both sides expressed optimism about concluding the agreement soon, reflecting the status of productive ongoing negotiations. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized the potential of the FTA to maximize convergences, deepen cooperation, stabilize the global economy, and strengthen democratic forces. The EU Ambassador to India noted substantial progress in recent talks held in Brussels, with the goal to finalize the deal by the end of 2025. The negotiations focus on creating a balanced, equitable trade agreement addressing tariff and non-tariff barriers, encompassing chapters on transparency, regulatory practices, customs, intellectual property, and digital trade. Both India and the EU recognize the importance of this FTA in advancing trade relations between two of the world's largest democracies and trading partners, with active involvement from high-level officials signifying strong political commitment to early conclusion and implementation.
