During Johann Saathoff's official visit to India, Germany and India reaffirmed their strong and long-standing partnership in renewable energy and sustainable development, marking the 25th anniversary of their strategic cooperation. The visit spanned Chennai and Delhi-NCR, culminating with the inauguration of the German Pavilion at the Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo 2025, showcasing joint technologies in solar, wind, and green hydrogen. Discussions at the Indo-German CEO Roundtable focused on solar manufacturing, technology exchange, and investment collaboration, highlighting renewable energy as both an economic driver and a climate responsibility.Germany's 'Team Germany,' including ministries, development organizations like GIZ and KfW, and private sectors, aims to strengthen global renewable energy value chains. Saathoff's tour of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute's Agri-Photovoltaic project illustrated productive coexistence of solar energy and agriculture, promoting sustainable rural livelihoods. The partnership is supported by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) under the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP) framework. This collaboration enhances technology transfer, policy support, and knowledge exchange, with Germany aiding India’s transition toward renewable energy through funding, development of green energy corridors, and initiatives like the Indo-German Solar Partnership. The cooperation also supports India's clean energy targets and fosters industry growth, innovation, and investment, ensuring sustainable and fair integration of renewable sources into power grids for a climate-resilient future.
