India and Portugal Hold 5th Foreign Office Consultations, Strengthen Bilateral and Global Cooperation
India and Portugal conducted their fifth Foreign Office Consultations in Lisbon, reviewing extensive bilateral relations including political, economic, cultural, and defense cooperation. Both sides discussed enhancing ties in renewable energy, agriculture, science, technology, tourism, and education. They also addressed India-EU relations and reaffirmed commitment to multilateral cooperation, aiming to expedite ongoing bilateral agreements.
On November 3, 2025, India and Portugal held the fifth round of Foreign Office Consultations in Lisbon, marking 50 years since the re-establishment of diplomatic relations. Co-chaired by India's Secretary (West) Shri Sibi George and Portugal's Director General for Foreign Policy Ms. Helena Malceta, the meetings included comprehensive reviews of political relations, trade, economic cooperation, cultural ties, and people-to-people connections. Key discussions focused on expanding cooperation in defense and security, renewable energy, agriculture, science and technology, tourism, education, digital innovation, startups, and maritime partnership. The two sides committed to expediting the conclusion of ongoing bilateral agreements. Additionally, they explored India-EU relations and shared perspectives on regional and global issues of mutual interest, with both emphasizing continued collaboration in multilateral forums such as the United Nations. This engagement further aligns with simultaneous India-EU Free Trade Agreement negotiations, underscoring the strategic importance of these consultations in fostering a multifaceted, future-oriented partnership between India and Portugal.
