India and Russia continue to strengthen their long-standing defence partnership as demonstrated by the successful conclusion of the 5th meeting of the Working Group on Military Cooperation under the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military-Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-M&MTC) held in New Delhi. The meeting, co-chaired by senior defence officials from both sides, reviewed current defence cooperation plans and explored new avenues such as enhanced training exchanges, joint production projects, and technology sharing. Notable joint projects include BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, Su-30MKI fighter jets, and plans for local production of Su-57 fighters. Additionally, India and Russia are conducting the Indra 2025 joint military exercises in Rajasthan, simulating desert combat conditions, to improve interoperability and operational readiness. These developments highlight an ongoing, privileged strategic partnership focused on building advanced defence capabilities through practical collaboration despite geopolitical pressures. The partnership remains a key element of India’s defence strategy alongside its other international defence relations.
