India Celebrates Italian Artisanal Gelato During Italian Cuisine Week 2025
The 10th edition of the Italian Cuisine Week in India highlights artisanal gelato as this year's focus, with events in New Delhi, Gurgaon, and Mumbai. The Indian ice cream sector is booming, expected to grow from $3.5 billion to $5.83 billion by 2028, driven by rising demand and innovation. Italian and Indian industry leaders are showcasing Italy's gelato production chain and collaborating through masterclasses, tastings, and partnerships.
From November 3 to November 7, 2025, India hosts the tenth Italian Cuisine Week, spotlighting artisanal gelato as the centerpiece of a series of events in New Delhi, Gurgaon, and Mumbai. The initiative, organized by Ice (Italian Trade Agency) with partners Acomag, Italian Exhibition Group, and Unione Italiana Food, aims to promote Italian agri-food excellence in India. The ice cream sector in India is experiencing unprecedented growth: projections indicate the market will expand from $3.5 billion in 2023-24 to $5.83 billion in 2028, fueled by increasing consumer demand, product innovation, and the spread of artisanal offerings beyond major cities. The artisanal segment, in particular, is growing rapidly due to a preference for natural, high-quality products. The Italian ecosystem—including ingredient producers, equipment manufacturers, prestigious schools, and major events like Sigep World—is actively engaging with the Indian market, highlighting the global significance of Italy’s gelato industry. The program includes masterclasses with leading Italian ice cream schools, a tasting evening at the Italian Cultural Institute in Delhi, and similar events in Mumbai. Key speakers include Carlotta Fabbri of Unione Italiana Food, Vasuki Punj of Frozen Fun, and Shivani Mirchandani of Minus Thirty, emphasizing the importance of cross-cultural exchange and industry collaboration.
