India Prioritizes Dairy and MSME Protection in New Zealand FTA Talks
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized India's commitment to safeguarding vulnerable sectors like dairy and MSMEs during ongoing FTA negotiations with New Zealand. He stressed that trade deals are tailored to each country's unique economic needs and not benchmarked against larger economies.
During his visit to New Zealand, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal reiterated India's firm stance on protecting sensitive sectors such as dairy and MSMEs in free trade agreement negotiations. He highlighted that India's approach to trade pacts is customized to address the specific economic scale and sensitivities of each partner country, rather than following models set by larger economies. Goyal's remarks came amid the fourth round of FTA talks, where both nations are working towards a balanced and mutually beneficial agreement. The negotiations, launched in March 2025, aim to deepen economic ties while ensuring that the interests of vulnerable groups in India are not compromised. Goyal also met with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and business leaders, underscoring the importance of a fair and inclusive trade framework.
