India has set an ambitious goal to secure at least 10% of global 6G patents by 2030, as announced by Department of Telecommunications Secretary Neeraj Mittal. This vision is part of India's broader strategy to become a global leader in next-generation telecom technology. The government is supporting research and development, encouraging domestic manufacturing, and fostering strong collaboration between academia, industry, and government. Over 100 R&D projects focused on 6G are underway, with emphasis on Open RAN, indigenous chipsets, AI-based intelligent networks, and regulatory sandboxes. The Bharat 6G Alliance, driven by the Prime Minister's vision, has already forged 10 international partnerships and is working to ensure India's significant contribution to 6G innovation. The country's rapid 5G rollout and the establishment of 100 5G labs have laid the foundation for this leadership position. The government's multi-pronged approach aims to prepare India for the practical applications of 6G by 2030, leveraging AI and other advanced technologies to drive innovation and economic growth.
