The Indian women's cricket team made history by winning their maiden ICC Women's World Cup title on November 2, 2025, at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the team overcame a challenging league stage but delivered convincing performances in the semifinals against Australia and the final against South Africa, clinching victory by 52 runs. Upon their arrival in New Delhi, the team was warmly welcomed with traditional music and enthusiastic crowds. They are scheduled to be felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following a ceremony similar to the one held for the men's team after their T20 World Cup win in July 2024. Several players achieved remarkable milestones during the tournament, with Smriti Mandhana breaking the record for most runs in a single World Cup edition and Shafali Verma earning the Player of the Match award in the final for her all-round performance. Deepti Sharma was named Player of the Tournament, leading the bowling attack with 18 wickets. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a cash reward of Rs 51 crore for the team and support staff, supplemented by additional rewards from state governments and organizations, recognizing this landmark moment in Indian women's cricket and boosting its profile nationally.
