Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal predicts India’s agriculture exports will double to $100 billion by 2030, driven by rapid technological and trade transformation. The agrochemical market is expanding quickly, with innovation, manufacturing self-reliance, and a shift toward sustainable biologicals fueling growth. Indian companies are becoming global partners by balancing quality, IP protection, and competitive pricing, positioning India as both a manufacturing and research hub.

According to Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal, India is targeting a doubling of its agricultural exports to $100 billion by 2030, reflecting the country’s rapid evolution in agri-tech, trade, and manufacturing. Industry leaders at the AgriBusiness Global LIVE! event highlighted that the Indian agrochemical market, which reached $11 billion in 2024–25, is projected to grow at a 9% CAGR, reaching $14.5 billion by 2027–28. There is also significant growth in the biological and bio-based pesticide sector, expected to expand from $190 million to $510 million over the next decade, signaling a broader shift toward integrated and sustainable pest management. Historically insecticide-driven, the market is diversifying, with herbicides now making up 39% of the sector, especially in cereal, fruit, and vegetable crops. Off-patent innovation—pairing off-patent products with generics to boost efficacy—has been a key growth driver. Indian manufacturers are focusing on backward integration to reduce import dependence and strengthen local supply chains, with the CDMO and CMO sectors gaining global relevance. Strong competition with China is encouraging Indian firms to prioritize quality, competitive pricing, and respect for intellectual property, which is increasingly attracting international partnerships. With a stringent regulatory framework and a focus on IP protection, India is transforming from an agrochemical supplier to a global innovation partner, balancing domestic growth with international opportunity.
