The Maharajas' Express is India’s most luxurious and expensive train, with fares reaching up to Rs 21 lakh per passenger for the Presidential Suite on the Delhi-Jaipur-Ranthambore-Fatehpur Sikri-Agra-Khajuraho-Varanasi-Delhi route. Featuring opulent interiors with gold and silver, it offers exclusive accommodations and premium services akin to a five-star hotel on wheels.

The Maharajas’ Express, operated by IRCTC since 2010, stands as one of the world’s most luxurious train journeys, with ticket fares varying by route and accommodation type. The train features 23 carriages offering four categories of lodging: Deluxe Cabin, Junior Suite, Suite, and Presidential Suite. On its most expensive route covering notable heritage sites across North-West and Central India, the Presidential Suite fare reaches Rs 21,03,210 per person. The train accommodates just 88 passengers per trip to ensure personalized luxury service. Interiors are lavishly decorated with gold and silver, presenting a palace-like atmosphere. Facilities include modern TVs, internet, electronic lockers, customizable air-conditioning, and large private bathrooms. Dining is provided in two multi-cuisine restaurants serving Indian and continental delicacies on 24-carat gold-plated utensils, enhancing the royal experience. The journey lasts about eight days, with guided tours to World Heritage sites such as the Taj Mahal and Khajuraho Temples. Ticket fares depend on the route and cabin choice, with options ranging from around Rs 4 lakh up to Rs 21 lakh on some routes. The Maharajas’ Express operates seasonally from late September to early April, emphasizing exclusivity and sophistication for elite travelers.
