India and Indonesia are moving closer to signing a major defense deal for the acquisition of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. According to defense sources, nearly all negotiation procedures have been completed, with only the final approval from Russia required to proceed. The BrahMos missile, jointly developed by India and Russia, is recognized globally for its speed, accuracy, and versatility. Discussions on the deal intensified during high-level visits between the two countries, including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's state visit to India in January 2025. India has already successfully exported the missile system to the Philippines, where it has proven effective in recent conflicts. The potential sale to Indonesia is seen as a strategic boost for India's indigenous defense industry and a significant enhancement of Indonesia's military capabilities. Senior Indian military officials, including Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, have recently visited Indonesia, underscoring the growing defense collaboration between the two nations. If finalized, the deal would mark Indonesia as the second ASEAN country to acquire the BrahMos missile, further expanding India's footprint in the global defense market.
