Kampong Chhnang Province Advocates Chemical-Free Vegetable Cultivation

Kampong Chhnang Provincial Governor H.E. Sun Sovannarith has urged local farmers to prioritize chemical-free vegetable cultivation. This initiative aims to significantly improve food safety, expand market opportunities, and enhance rural livelihoods. The province plans to establish dedicated markets for safe produce and expand technical training for farmers on best agricultural practices, including seed selection and proper pesticide use. These efforts are expected to strengthen competitiveness, reduce reliance on imported goods, and ensure public health through the availability of safe, high-quality, domestically grown vegetables.

Authorities in Cambodia's Kampong Chhnang province, led by Governor H.E. Sun Sovannarith, are making a concerted effort to promote chemical-free vegetable cultivation among local farmers. During a recent visit to inspect safe vegetable net houses operated by beneficiaries of a social land concession program, the Governor underscored the critical importance of producing vegetables free from chemical residues. This initiative is primarily driven by the need to ensure food safety for consumers, bolster confidence in domestically grown produce, and ultimately enhance rural livelihoods through expanded market opportunities.The province plans several strategic interventions to achieve these goals. The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is actively working to establish a dedicated market where farmers can sell and display their chemical-free agricultural products, thereby creating additional income streams and improving community living standards. Concurrently, technical training will be significantly expanded for farmers and producers. This training will cover essential agricultural practices, including proper seed selection, judicious use of fertilisers and pesticides, and adherence to recognised technical standards to meet market demands effectively. Furthermore, H.E. Sovannarith called for the creation of larger agricultural development communities to facilitate comprehensive training, enhance product value, and ensure the sustainable production of high-quality, safe goods. These comprehensive efforts are expected to strengthen the competitiveness of local produce in domestic markets, foster export potential, and reduce the country's reliance on imported produce, all while safeguarding public health, given that vegetables are frequently consumed fresh or raw.
