Lashkar Terror Plot Foiled: 8 Arrested in Delhi, Tamil Nadu; Bangladesh Handler Mastermind
The Delhi Police Special Cell thwarted a terror plot orchestrated by Bangladesh-based Lashkar handler Shabbir Ahmed Lone, leading to eight arrests across Delhi, Kolkata, and Tamil Nadu. The module planned anti-national poster campaigns at metro stations and broader terrorist activities. Initial arrests of Umar Farooq and Robil Ul Islam in Kolkata led to Lone's identification. Lone, a previously jailed Kashmiri terrorist, had reconnected with LeT after fleeing to Bangladesh. Six additional Bangladeshi nationals involved in the plot were apprehended in Tamil Nadu, preventing a major incident.
The Delhi Police's Special Cell successfully dismantled a significant terror module, preventing a major incident across India. The plot, masterminded by Shabbir Ahmed Lone, a Lashkar-e-Taiba handler operating from Bangladesh, involved pasting anti-national posters at prominent metro stations in Delhi, specifically Kashmiri Gate, and later in Kolkata, echoing terrorist slogans. The initial alert came from the CISF regarding the posters in Delhi, prompting a Special Cell investigation that led to the arrest of two suspects, Umar Farooq and Robil Ul Islam, in Kolkata. Robil Ul Islam is a Bangladeshi national.During interrogation, the duo revealed that Shabbir Ahmed Lone, a Kashmiri terrorist with a history of radical activities, was directing them from Bangladesh. Lone had been previously arrested in 2007 with AK-47s and grenades, served time, and fled to Bangladesh after his release in 2019, where he re-established ties with LeT leadership. Further investigation expanded the operation to Tamil Nadu, where six more Bangladeshi nationals, allegedly part of Lone's reassembled network, were apprehended by the police with the assistance of local authorities. These individuals were reportedly preparing for terrorist activities, having conducted dry runs under Lone's direction. The coordinated arrests highlight the extensive reach of the plot, which aimed to destabilize multiple Indian cities, and the crucial role of inter-agency cooperation in thwarting such threats. The successful operation underscores the continuous vigilance required to combat cross-border terrorism.
