LG Electronics Explores Local Machinery Production and R&D Expansion in India

LG Electronics is evaluating the relocation of a portion of its factory equipment production to India, signaling a strategic shift to leverage the country's expanding electronics manufacturing industry. The company sees India as a key market for supplying machinery used in automated plants, as well as components and displays. This move is part of LG's broader 'Make in India' initiative, which aims to strengthen local manufacturing and supply chains. Separately, LG Corp, the group's holding company, is investing ₹1,000 crore to set up a new global research and development center in Noida, expected to generate approximately 500 new jobs. The R&D center will focus on developing advanced technologies for industries such as displays, semiconductors, camera modules, automation solutions, and robotics. LG has already supplied machinery for the automated manufacturing process of Apple's latest iPhone 17 in India to plants operated by Foxconn, Tata Electronics, and Pegatron. This initiative underscores LG's commitment to supporting India's industrial growth and tapping into the country's skilled workforce for innovation and production.
