L&T Onshore Wins Landmark LNG Storage Project for India's First Integrated Petrochemical Complex
L&T Onshore has secured a significant lump-sum turnkey contract from Petronet LNG for the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of large LNG, ethane, and propane storage facilities. Located at the Dahej Petrochemical Complex in Gujarat, this project supports India’s first integrated petrochemical complex utilizing LNG cold energy. It includes massive storage tanks for LNG/ethane and propane, along with handling facilities. The initiative aligns with India's Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision, aiming to boost indigenous petrochemical capacity and bridge the domestic polypropylene demand-supply gap.
L&T Onshore has been awarded a substantial lump-sum turnkey (LSTK) contract by Petronet LNG, a consortium of major Public Sector Undertakings including ONGC, IOCL, GAIL, and BPCL. This landmark project encompasses the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of extensive Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), ethane, and propane storage facilities at the Dahej Petrochemical Complex in Gujarat, India.The_scope of work is comprehensive, featuring the development of a 170,000 cubic meter LNG/ethane double-wall storage tank and a 140,000 cubic meter propane double-wall storage tank. Additionally, the contract covers the design and implementation of ethane and propane handling and despatch facilities, crucial for supporting the upcoming Propane Dehydrogenation (PDH) and Polypropylene (PP) plant. This entire development is poised to bolster India’s first integrated petrochemical complex, innovatively leveraging LNG cold energy for enhanced efficiency.According to Subramanian Sarma, L&T's Deputy Managing Director and President, the project is a significant milestone, contributing to India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by strengthening indigenous petrochemical capacity. E S Sathyanarayanan, Senior Vice President and Head of L&T Onshore, highlighted that securing this prestigious order underscores L&T’s expertise in complex EPCC projects. The initiative is strategically important for bridging the domestic demand-supply gap for polypropylene and fortifying the country’s petrochemical value chain, reflecting the government's push for self-reliance in manufacturing.
