Luigi Mondello to Lead Italian Chemical Society (SCI) from 2026
Luigi Mondello, a Full Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Messina, will become President of the Società Chimica Italiana (SCI) from January 2026 to December 2028, succeeding Gianluca Farinola. Luigi Mondello, Full Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Messina, Italy, is set to assume the presidency of the Società Chimica Italiana (SCI) for a three-year term, from January 2026 to December 2028, succeeding Gianluca Farinola. Mondello has a distinguished career within the national chemical community, having held numerous leadership roles in SCI, including President of the Division of Analytical Chemistry. His presidency is expected to focus on strengthening SCI’s national and European footprint and fostering closer integration among academia, research institutions, and the chemical industry.Mondello, a University of Messina alumnus, has a rich academic background as well as experience in industry and ministerial positions. His research is centered on high-resolution chromatography, particularly hyphenated and multidimensional techniques coupled with mass spectrometry for complex natural matrices, and the development of specialized software. He is a member of prestigious institutions and has received multiple acclaimed awards, such as the GC×GC Lifetime Achievement Award and the Tswiett-Nernst European Award. He is consistently recognized among the top global analytical scientists.
