Mukesh Ambani Ranks Second Among India's Top Philanthropists with ₹626 Crore Donation in 2025

Mukesh Ambani and his family donated ₹626 crore in fiscal year 2025, making him the second-largest philanthropist in India after Shiv Nadar. Their contributions, primarily through the Reliance Foundation, support education, healthcare, rural transformation, women's empowerment, sports, and arts. India saw a record ₹10,380 crore donated by 191 philanthropists, marking an 85% rise in giving over three years.

According to the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025, Mukesh Ambani and family made an annual donation of ₹626 crore in FY25, a 54% increase from the previous year, second only to Shiv Nadar's ₹2,708 crore contribution. Ambani’s philanthropy, managed largely via the Reliance Foundation, spans diverse causes including education, healthcare, rural transformation, women’s empowerment, disaster management, arts and culture, heritage conservation, sports development, and urban renewal. Reliance Industries also exceeded its mandatory corporate social responsibility (CSR) spending by ₹261 crore, totaling ₹1,309 crore in CSR contributions. The list of 191 philanthropists collectively donated ₹10,380 crore, reflecting a substantial surge of 85% over three years, with the top 10 contributing 56% of the total. Other key philanthropists include the Hinduja family and Nandan Nilekani, with a noted focus on education and healthcare across the major donors. The rise of sports development as a philanthropic cause is highlighted by Mukesh Ambani’s ₹127 crore donation towards it. Mumbai leads as the city with the highest concentration of philanthropists, followed by New Delhi and Bengaluru. This growing culture of giving showcases the increasing involvement of India’s wealthiest in social causes, marking a significant shift in philanthropic priorities and scale.
