National Conference on Petrochemicals Held at CIPET Guwahati

The Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Guwahati, hosted a two-day National Conference on 'Opportunities and Challenges for Petrochemicals and Allied Sector in the North Eastern Region.' Supported by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, the event brought together over 120 participants from government, industry, and academia. Speakers highlighted the region's rich petrochemical resources, CIPET's role in skilled manpower development, and the vast potential for industrial growth, particularly in downstream plastics, emphasizing sustainability and capacity building among the youth.

The Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), Guwahati, successfully organized a significant two-day National Conference on 'Opportunities and Challenges for Petrochemicals and Allied Sector in the North Eastern Region' on December 18 and 19. This event received crucial support from the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. The primary objective of the conference, as articulated by Dr. Harekrishna Deka, Head of CIPET Guwahati, was to accelerate industrial growth in the North Eastern Region by identifying opportunities, addressing existing challenges, and strengthening the petrochemical and allied industries.Dr. Deka underscored the North East's abundant petrochemical resources and the vital contributions of major public sector undertakings like Oil India Limited, ONGC, IOCL, BCPL, and GAIL. He also highlighted CIPET's pivotal role in developing skilled manpower for the plastics and allied sectors, alongside providing essential technical support in product design, mould manufacturing, processing, testing, and quality assurance.The conference served as a comprehensive platform, attracting over 120 participants from diverse sectors, including government departments, industry associations, industrialists, academic institutions, universities, emerging entrepreneurs, research scholars, and students. Key dignitaries, including Deba Kumar Mishra, District Commissioner of Kamrup, and Sazzad Alam, Additional Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, Government of Assam, commended CIPET for organizing the national-level event. They emphasized its benefits for both industry and academia, recognizing CIPET as a torchbearer for promoting sustainability and capacity building among the youth. Sazzad Alam specifically highlighted Assam's immense potential in the petroleum and petrochemical sector, particularly in downstream plastics industries, foreseeing new opportunities from upcoming industrial units.
