New Pan-Northeast Political Alliance Set to Launch
A new political force is emerging in Northeast India, led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma's NPP and Tripura's TIPRA Motha Party. The alliance, set to be formally announced in New Delhi, will include leaders from Tripura, Assam, and Nagaland, aiming to create a unified voice for the region's interests.
A significant political realignment is underway in Northeast India, with the National People’s Party (NPP) led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and the Tipra Motha Party (TIPRA) from Tripura, headed by Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma, set to form a new pan-Northeast political party. The formal announcement is expected in New Delhi, attended by prominent leaders from across the region, including Daniel Langthasa from Assam and Mmhonlumo Kikon from Nagaland. TIPRA Motha, currently the second-largest party in Tripura’s Legislative Assembly with 13 MLAs, is likely to merge with the NPP. The initiative aims to consolidate regional voices and address indigenous causes, with Pradyot Deb Barma credited as the driving force behind the idea. Leaders from Dima Hasao in Assam and former BJP spokesperson Mmhonlumo Kikon are also joining the alliance, signaling a major shift in the region’s political landscape.
