NExT Exam Deferred: NMC to Conduct Mock Tests
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has deferred the National Exit Test (NExT) for three to four years. The decision follows a meeting with the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), which presented findings from a nationwide survey. NMC will conduct mock exams to assess readiness and gather feedback.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has officially postponed the implementation of the National Exit Test (NExT) for another three to four years. This decision comes after a delegation from the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) met with NMC Chairman Dr. Abhijat Sheth, presenting findings from a nationwide survey. The NMC plans to conduct fully funded mock NExT exams across India to evaluate the system's readiness and collect feedback from students and institutions. Originally scheduled for August 2025, the NExT was intended to serve as a single national-level examination for MBBS licensing and postgraduate medical admissions, replacing exams like NEET-PG and FMGE. However, due to strong opposition from medical students and associations, along with legal, structural, and logistical challenges, the rollout has been delayed.
